‘The Bathers’ by Paul Cezanne, is an image I have visited at the National Gallery since I was in my teens. It has always been one of my main “go to visit’ for thought, reflection and often just guidance. This is the first time I have made a transcription of the work, on a large scale rather than drawing straight into a sketchbook. This work has been and still is, an interesting progression of instinctive drawing changes and developments; that I am just allowing to happen. I am forever indebted to both Cezanne and the ‘magnitude’ of the Bathers themselves for their supervision and inspiration over the the decades.
